My grandfather passed away on the 9th this month from heart failure and leukemia. I was very close to him, both socially and physically; he only lived 7 houses down the street. He had been having problems with his bone marrow for a while, but it was never enough to be called leukemia. My mom had been told by the doctor a couple months ago that if he made it a year he would be lucky. She kept this to herself and never told anyone. I went to a flute fair this weekend! When I went I joined the GBFA, or, Greater Boston Flute association. It was really fun. I got to tryy all the flutes they had for sale and including a bass flute and contra flute. I couldn't make much of them though. I tried everything from piccolos to wooden flutes, and even a $33000 flute! For those of you that know flutes, I saw an openen holed alto flute. It was handmade by this lady I met, who also made contras.
